Brutally Delicious Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

This is my first recipe, submitted by Nik the bass player of Scythia.

The first thing I noticed was the amounts in the recipe, it makes a huge batch of cookies, which is brilliant if you have a large family like me. Normally i have to double up recipes as there are seven of us, so it made a nice change to come across a recipe i didn't have to do that with.

After mixing the butter and sugars i had something that looked like this........

Then you added the eggs, water, and vanilla essence to the creamed mixture. In a seperate bowl there was some flour, baking powder and salt evenly mixed togther which was also added to the mixture.
After adding the oats and chocolate chips ( i actually used 2 large bars of chocolate, one white and one milk chopped into chunks) i had a huge, huge mound of cookie mix.

I put large spoonfuls of the mixture on trays and cooked them for the time stated, but ended up cooking them for longer as i felt they weren't done enough.

They were left to get cold on the baking paper as they were quite gooey, they firmed up as they cooled. I managed to get over 40 large cookies out of the mix as they spread out a lot while cooking. The smell had the kids hovering around the kitchen, itching to know what I was cooking.

The verdict was unanimous amongst the kids that they were mega nice and would want me to cook them again, so i guess thats a keeper. They lasted all of a day with the kids constantly in and out of the tin! They were rather moorish and I couldn't help dipping in and out of the tin either........ they were crispy, yet chewy and were a cross between flapjacks and cookies. They go brilliantly with a cup of tea.

If i made them again i would make them smaller and add more chocolate, and if you are a smaller family i would advise you to halve the recipe, but apart from that they were really good. Thanks Nik :)

Hello and Welcome.

I love cooking and baking, ask anyone who knows me, im always at it, when i have time. There's not usually a shortage of fresh bread, cakes, cookies and homemade dinners at my house, so when
I was asked to review a new cookbook coming out called For Those About To Cook Pure Metal by Bruce Moore, i jumped at the chance.

Given my love of metal music, baking and reading, all i needed to make the perfect evening was a pot of tea, and for a couple of hours i poured over the book, read it from cover to cover. Found some good bands i knew about and some i had never heard of and as a consequence have some new music to investigate.
The book has information on the bands, with quotes and pictures, so it makes for an interesting read, the recipes have a wide range of easiness, with some being really simple and others being fiddly, i was pleased there was a wide range of tastes catered for including raw, vegan and vegetarian recipes. there's also a wide range of meals and drinks, although some of the ingredients may be a bit hard to get hold of, like moose, and reindeer but the majority of them use everyday easy to get items.

As we are a half vegetarian family i will be substituting a lot of the meats for vegetarian equivelant such as Quorn mince, chicken pieces, meatballs, steak strips etc unless its not practical.

This blog will be for testing these recipes, but from time to time i will also add some family favourites.

The first thing i baked was a cookie recipe, so that will be my first review. Enjoy.
